Almost every Sri Lanka itinerary includes a safari day, and almost every first-time traveller defaults to Yala National Park without seriously considering the alternative. Yala’s reputation is genuinely deserved, but it isn’t automatically the right choice for every traveller, and Udawalawe National Park, further along the south coast, offers a meaningfully different experience that suits plenty of travellers better. This is the honest comparison, without steering you toward whichever park happens to be easier to sell.
